Lush Addict: Shampoo Bars

So being the obsessive Lush Addict that I am I thought I'd start doing a little series about all the Lush products I love, beginning with a look at their shampoo bars.

What do you know about: Solid Shampoo?
Picture from Lush website
All shampoo bars £5
Godiva shampoo bar with conditioner £6
Jungle conditioner £2.95
Shampoo bar tin £2.50

The idea of a solid shampoo intrigued me so a while ago I decided to have a little nosey at them in the shop and they do have quite a decent range.
I opted for the karma komba which claims to reduce knots, which have always been an issue for me. I brought mine probably about a year ago, it was green with a little dried flower on the top and I admit I was initially a bit skeptical of the product but it lathers up incredibly well when you start rubbing it in your hands or directly onto your wet hair. It lasts for ages and I really mean ages I did have a rather long break from it as I wanted to have pink and blue bits in my hair for a while and I would imagine this product would strip the dye out even more quickly than normal shampoos.
Karma Komba
After a lot of use it tends to flatten out into a wider circle so i'm not sure how much use the tin would be.
The scent is lovely unlike some of the other ones I smelt in store (Soak and Float and Seanik) and it did make my hair a lot less knotted, the only criticism I have is that is a tad drying so a good conditioner is advised. Its really great if you've been quite product heavy because it does really cleanse the hair and leave it feeling natural and light. Now that I'm taking a break from dying bits of hair random colours I will start using this again to alternate with my John freida radiant red shampoo and I'd love to try some of the other versions they have especially the glittery Ultimate Shine one as that looks and smells divine. I initially thought £5 was a bit pricey considering how small it is but it's worth the money as it does really last.
I wouldn't advise these if you have unnatural colours in your hair as I'm not sure how they'd get on with the dye so it's best to ask about this issue to someone in your local Lush.

Has anyone tried any of the other Shampoo Bars?

Sunday summary

Where I've been- Had quite a busy week, done uni work, went to the cinema with Pete, went with my mom to go charity shop shopping and shall do a post this week about my purchases. I also went out for a friends 21st and ended up in a 90s themed bar, it was a pretty epic evening.
Music- Metric
Currently lusting after- Shoes as I broke my favourite heels which Pete brought me for my 21st, snapped the heel right off but I'm hoping they're fixable.
Mood- Kind of sad about my shoes and in a hefty amount of pain as I broke my shoes by falling down the stairs. I'm currently sat in my pjs at Pete's feeling grumpy and bruised.
Product of the week- Soap and Glory Scrub 'em and Leave 'em.
Movie- We went to see The Woman In Black, it was fantastic and quite scary considering its only a 12, we also watched Kick-Ass on DVD if you haven't watched it I highly recommend it and not only because Aaron Johnson is attractive.
Drinking- A bit too much Vodka and me and Pete shared a delicious long appletini in a pitcher sized martini glass.
Wishing- I could stick to my goals a bit better and stop drinking quite so much.
Looking forward- Spending as much of this week drawing as possible and keeping up with my blog.
Highlight- Definitely going out on Saturday night despite breaking my beloved shoes and falling down the stairs.
Goal for next week- Do a lot more work for uni and spend less money.
Thought of the week- Ridiculously high heels and stairs really do not mix well.
Blog of the week- Lucy Writes

It's All In The Eyes

I thought I'd do a little (well it was meant to be little) post about the make-up I use on my eyes, if people like it I may do others about what I use on the rest of my face.
I literally cannot live without eye liner, well I could but I'd never leave the house, for about 3 or 4 years I wore kohl eye liner every single day and whilst I loved it then I realise now how much of a pain it can be. They break constantly. I've had many a fit of rage in regards to pencil eye liner, it snaps, you sharpen it, put it back to your eye and the lead breaks or falls out, I genuinely believe people who sell them deliberately throw the boxes around to make sure you need a new one every week. I moved on to liquid eye liner and we got along ok but it really is a hit and miss type product in my opinion, I've tried ones that make your eyes sting (I'm looking at you Stargazer), ones that take forever to dry inevitably resulting in a hefty amount of smudging and ones that dry kind of crusty and flake off. If anyone's on the lookout for a decent liquid eye liner I'd recommend L' Oreal Paris Super Liner Carbon Gloss which I used for quite awhile and never had any issues with. I tried the Maybelline gel liner when it first came out as it was on offer and when I took it out of its cardboard container I have to admit I was rather disappointed as there appears to be hardly any product but I was pleased that it came with it's own brush which is actually a decent brush considering the fact it s free with the product. I thought it may be quite messy to use and was skeptical about its lasting power but it proved me wrong, it lasts all day and hardly smudges. It also proved my initial judgement wrong as the tiny pot somehow lasts ages and I mean months and months and I use it literally everyday I've only had to repurchase once and the small size is very handy when it comes to carrying it around.

My new favourite mascara Bourjois Liner Effect, it is simply fantastic see my review of this mascara here to know why I love it so much.

Pete's mom got me this lovely Apothecary Essentials Kit which included these eye shadows which are really great for creating a natural daytime look.

My Sleek Palette for when I'm feeling colourful, I think this one's called Acid Brights which says it all really, I love this palette and really don't why I haven't brought any more as they're really great, they have strong pigmentation, very little fallout and they last ages, as you can see I haven't been brave enough to use the highlighter orange or yellow. The little brush is the one you get with the Maybelline eye liner and the other two are just some cheapish ones I brought from Superdrug. The Urban Decay was a gift from my best friend last Christmas I can't remember what it's called but it's a lovely shade but I somewhat forgot I had it until I had a big sort out of my make up a couple of weeks ago, so I'm definitely going to be using this more often.

The Benefit Lemon Aid is a fairly recent purchase after trying it in one of their sets, being rather pale I do sometimes have an issue with my eyelids looking a bit transparent and veiny so this product is great for days when I don't want to wear eye shadow, it also works fantastic as a base for eye shadow as it improves pigmentation and adds staying power to even the cheapest eye shadow. Primer is essential if you're a glitter addict like me, so when I saw Too Faced Glitter Glue It was perfect, it's a rather sticky consistency and can be a bit tricky to apply, you really have to be careful because the glitter/shadow you put on will stick instantly to where ever the product is which can make blending and softening a bit difficult. I love Barry M make up because the colours are just amazing, this is my all time favourite eye shadow despite the fact it has a tendency to go absolutely everywhere when you're applying it the end result is really worth it.
Lastly we have Benefit's creaseless liner/shadow in Strutt, this is lovely as is my best friend for buying it for my birthday. The first time I tried it I must admit it did go against it's word and disappear into the crease of my eyelid, but I put this down to me not putting enough effort into the application because I have since used it with foundation or Lemon Aid as a base and have found it to have much more staying power. The shade is exactly the type I like, a kind of gun metal grey, I wouldn't recommend it as a liner though because it's a tad too pale for my liking, but that's just me. The packaging as with all Benefit products is a delight and you get a fairly decent amount of product for your money. So thank you Beth you know me oh so well.

What's your all time favourite product for your eyes?

My Day To Day Skin Care Routine

I always remove my make-up with a face wipe, at the minute I'm using these Loreal ones because they were on offer in Sainsburys,  they are quite nice but I generally prefer Simple ones.
I then hop in a lovely warm bath or shower and let the steam open up my pores before using one of two cleansers:
Firstly we have Ocean Salt from Lush, it was the first ever lush product I brought, I decided to try it after reading about it on Audrey Kitching's blog about a year ago and it was instant love. I used to use it once or twice a week because it used to be quite harsh and the grains of salt especially at the top of the pot were quite big and had a tendency to scratch, but they have since (after a few complaints I think) made the grains a lot smaller and I use it every other day as its possibly a bit too harsh for everyday usage. The smell is divine; grapefruit, lime, vodka and salt it's pretty much a cocktail for your skin, just try not to get it on your lips as it's obviously rather salty, I expected it to be quite drying but it's not at all, it's £6.75 a pot which is really reasonable as it lasts for ages, I would highly recommend it.
I was looking for a face wash to alternate with my Ocean Salt for a while and as Soap and Glory were on offer for 3 for 2 in Boots I decided to try their Face Soap for £7.00, which is absolutely lovely; it smells great, it looks great, it makes my face feel so refreshed and its another product that I can see lasting a good while as you only really need a tiny amount.
After washing off my face wash with warm water I give it a quick splash of cold water to close my pores back up.

The Simple Moisturiser I've been using for a while, I wouldn't say it's particularly fantastic but it does what it's supposed to and at £3.79 it doesn't break the bank.
I brought the Soap And Glory Clear Here Moisture Lotion in the 3 for 2 promotion and absolutely love it, it moisturises my skin without weighing it down or making it feel greasy and for someone who has oily skin in places and dry patches in others that is no mean feat. The only thing that could maybe improve this product would be a larger size as it is relatively small considering it's £9, I can't see it lasting too long but I will definitely repurchase.
I use the Simple Moisturiser after using the Face Soap and the Clear Here after using the Ocean Salt, I originally intended to use the Soap and Glory products together but found that using both made my skin feel quite tight.
I can honestly say I've seen an improvement in my skin since introducing the Soap and Glory products into my routine and would highly encourage people to make the most of the current 3 for 2 offer in Boots, the other product I brought was a self heating mask but I haven't got round to trying it yet.

Sunday summary

Where I've been- Other than going out for valentines day I've pretty much been a hermit this week on the plus side I've spent most of my week at Pete's playing grand theft auto whilst he did work and I've done quite a lot of drawing for uni.
Music- Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows.
Currently lusting after- King Of Skin body butter from Lush and new boots as I've literally worn my current everyday boots to death and had to put them out of their misery after discovering a huge hole in the sole.
Mood- content
Product of the week- John Freida Radiant Red shampoo, I love John Freida shampoos I used to use the Sheer Blonde shampoo but as I'm currently embracing my gingerness I've switched to this.
Movie- I watched The Secretary on valentines day, it's such an awesome film but perhaps not the most romantic film for the day. I also saw The Muppets movie on Wednesday which was kind of awesome but in comparison to the rest of the Muppets films it was kind of lacking somehow. It made me really want to watch The Muppets Treasure Island. :-)
Eating- Really unhealthy this week, I've definitely got to try harder next week.
Drinking- Too much as per usual, me and Pete had to house sit on Saturday to look after their dog and I ended up drinking a whole bottle of rose wine to myself.
Wishing- I had stronger willpower in terms of budgeting, healthy eating and getting stuff done without losing focus.
Looking forward to- I'm hopefully going to see The Woman In Black with my mom, Pete and Pete's mom on Wednesday. It's also a friends 21st on Saturday so we're off up town to drink ourselves silly.
Highlight- valentines festivities with my lovely Pete.
Goal for next week- sort out a gift for Helen's birthday, be really productive when it comes to uni work and get round to doing some of the blog posts I've had planned for a while including some product reviews.
Thought of the week- I've become perhaps too obsessed with things from the 90's, I blame my new found love for My So Called Life, and also my addiction to Happy Snax, tiny packets of crisps with less than 30 calories a bag, they are amazing!
Blog- will be added tomorrow

Feature Friday: Scribbles

So my current project is based around sayings and idioms, specifically ones featuring animals so I thought I'd share with you some of my initial doodles from this week.

The wolf picture says Lone Wolf but the N looks like a V, which is a tad irritating.

What do people think?
I'd love to get some input from people on what images work and which are a bit lacking

Valentines Day

So I made the 'happy hamper' a couple of years ago because basically Pete can be hard to buy for and I usually end up buying him a load of little things rather than one big thing and I thought a happy hamper would be a cute way of wrapping his gifts.
This valentines the happy hamper was filled with:
A t-shirt with The Jam on it (his favourite band)
A chocolate heart from Thorntons with the not so sentimental message of 'You Smell x' written on it
An I.O.U for the blu-ray version of Fantasia that hasn't arrived yet
And some biscuits I made including Portal themed ones such as the Companion Cube below(it's one of his favourite games)

We had a rather chilled out Valentines day, he came to get me in the evening bringing with him a lovely bunch of roses and we went back to his after making a stop at Dominos on the way, we exchanged gifts and watched some tv. He got me a really cute card with cups of tea on it, a box of Guylian sea shells (my favourite chocolate), the Creamy Candy bar  and the Blooming Beautiful gift box from the Lush and a lovely turquoise picture frame from Urban Outfitters that I've been lusting after for ages. He was so thoughtful this year, he even put a picture in the frame of the stuffed cat I've had since I was three, and I do feel extremely lucky and grateful to have a boyfriend who's so lovely.
The next day I spent the morning at his whilst he popped to uni to talk to his lecturer and we went to Chiquitos for lunch which was delicious, I had the spicy chicken and melted cheese quesadillas and a lovely green eyes cocktail, after that we went to the cinema to see The Muppets which seemed like a much better idea before we realised that it was half term, but apart from the horrendous amount of children it was an all right film.

Sunday Summary

New chilli print top from Primark- £6

Where I've been- University, Pete's, shopping and Saturday we went bowling with my parents and Pete's dad and fiancee then out for food.
Music- The Ramones
Currently lusting after- I went to forbidden planet and saw lots of lovely geeky things including plushie mameshiba beans that I very nearly brought, I also spent quite a while at the benefit counter lusting over pretty much everything.
Mood- Kinda bummed out for no apparent reason, but I shall resolve to be happier and more productive this week because moping achieves nothing.
Product of the week- Hair dye, I think I used Superdrugs own brand as it was cheap, but I suddenly had the urge to go back to my natural colour as my hair was getting too light and I must say I'm pleased I did.
Movie- I haven't really watched any movies this week, I did however spend three days watching all 19 episodes of My So Called Life, on one occasion til 4 am as I couldn't sleep, Jared Leto is just as beautiful as a dopey teenager as he is now in 30 Seconds To Mars, seriously watch Hurricane.
Eating- A Lot of Chinese food at an all you can eat place after bowling, it was amazing! Spring rolls, wontons, crispy shredded chilli chicken, chicken yuk sung and chicken chow mein. Heaven.
Drinking- Perhaps a tad excessive this week with quite a lot of wine and vodka.
Wishing- I could sleep better and be a bit less self depreciating.
Looking forward to- Valentines day, although I'm not feeling particularly romantic I am looking forward to a trip to chiquitos and the cinema on Wednesday.
Highlight- Definitely bowling as I haven't been in about 6 years, even if it did make me acutely aware of how puny my arms are as they are still hurting this morning.
Goal for next week- Got lots this week; do lots more drawing for my project, blog more as I was a bit crap with it last week, paint my nails valentines themed colour and make some geeky cookies for Pete.
Thought of the week- I really miss going to live shows, when I was 15 me and my would go to 2 or 3 gigs a month but last year I only went to probably less than 5 in the whole year. Maybe I've grown out of my rock side a bit or maybe there's just not as many decent bands around anymore.
Blog of the week-I Need More Clothes

Feature Friday: Soppy Git

I admit it I can be a soppy git at times, but I've never really loved valentines day.
Me and Pete tend to go out a few days afterwards to celebrate, this is due to a few reasons; It's always sooooo busy everywhere, there's always way too much noise in restaurants and me and the boy tend to enjoy a pleasant eating silence because there is such a thing as a non-awkward silence and people should really learn that because if we're in Chiquito's or there are nachos anywhere in my immediate vicinity I'm really not going to care how your day was. Everyone's been guilty of excessive PDA's but people really do tend to bypass common decency on feb 14th, I do not want to see you feeding each other, standing in the middle of a busy high street heads together staring into each others eyes (yes it happens) or making out in any place serving food.
So that paragraph doesn't really support my initial statement but deep down I am a sentimental old fool, hence the pictures above, so a little explanation:
The little scribbled on bit of paper was written shortly after valentines day 2008 I passed a note to my friend in class asking if she'd invited Pete to her party because I fancied him (I sound about 12 but I was 17), she had, he came and with a little dutch courage I managed to mumble a few sentences at him and the rest is history as they say.
Our first valentines day- when we were in sixth form Pete would sometimes walk to school with me and a few days before valentines day he gave me a pack of sticky fixers as you can probably guess I was rather confused and he refused to explain himself so I just assumed he was having a tiny episode or something, but the next day he gave me a small red heart made of card that said 'I love you' on it which was very sweet, the day after he gave me a bigger one to frame the little one that said 'more than yesterday' and on valentines day he gave me the last one to fit over the top which said ' and more everyday'. It's the best thing I've ever recieved and I shall cherish it forever, I was also rather impressed that the patterns on all 3 match up perfectly.
Last Valentines- We actually ventured out of our homes for the actual day and went to see Gnomeo and Juliet, which I would not recommend despite the fact that Ozzy Osbourne is the voice of a plastic deer.
Three Little Words- Sometimes those three words are just right and I cannot stand cards with ridiculously long and sloppy verses about how the world stopped the moment your eyes met, because it probably didn't, you may have been drunk in which case the world would be extra spinny and not at all still. So Pete wrote a simple note with a simple drawing  on a tiny card on a single rose. Just right.
This Valentines day- I could not think of anything to get so I went with the good old predictable t-shirt (with his favourite band The Jam on it), an I.o.u for a dvd I ordered that won't turn up in time and chocolate as I have many times before, a lot of said chocolate has remained unopened and kept for sentimental reasons in Pete's room and is starting to look a tad gross, for instance the I Love You chocolate letters I brought him four years ago. So at a loss for sentimental things to say I went with the ridiculous instead and yes the sales woman did look at me like I'm insane, but hey maybe he'll actually eat this non sentimental chocolate.

Sunday Summary

Where I've been- Pete's, uni, the pub for wine with a friend and out for lunch with Pete before going to Himley.
Music- The X-certs.
Currently lusting after- lots of things from Benefit especially Girl Meets Pearl.
Mood- Creative
Products of the week- I brought 10 sample bags of eyeshadows from Victorian Disco, after seeing other bloggers positive reviews, they arrived a couple of days ago and the colours are pretty amazing, I haven't used them yet by my mom tried one of the two she bought and they are really bright and seem to last all day so I'll definitely be purchasing some full size pots and I'll probably do a review some time next week when I've tried them properly.
Movies- Sherlock Holmes, Taxi Driver and Nativity.
Eating- About a million hot cross buns.
Drinking- Not too much just the odd glass of rose and some white wine at Pete's dad's.
Wishing- My attention span lasted longer than 30 seconds, if anything it seems to be getting worse, I may have to rekindle my romance with energy drinks in order to be more productive.
Looking forward to- Getting fully into this next project, so far I've only produced the image above but Im feeling pretty optimistic about it atm. Also looking forward to my friends 21st in a few weeks as I haven't been up town yet this year. Oh and of course valentines day.
Highlight- Mine and Pete's walk about the woods and finally getting back into my work.
Goal for next week- Do loads of ideas for my uni work, sort out Pete's present for valentines day and go to the pub as I haven't really seen a lot of people this week and definitely see my nan too.
Thought of the week- Snow makes everything seem brighter.
Blog of the week- Little Velvet Dresses

Feature Friday: Girl crushes Pt 1

Evan Rachel Wood

She's pretty much my favourite actress, I love any film she's in and she's amazingly beautiful.
My Top 5 ERV Films:
Pretty Persuasion
Whatever Works
Across the Universe
King of California

 Zooey Deschanel

Although I must confess I did not really care for 500 Days Of Summer and The Happening may be the worst film ever to see the light of day, I do in general love Zooey especially in New Girl and in Elf. Also she has pretty amazing hair.

                                   Audrey Kitching

I've been reading her Buzznet Blog for a good few years and I absolutely adore her for her style, hair and her obsession with cats including her own cat Waffle.

I love Ke$ha, I know she's trashy as hell and I know that for the most part her singing can be, well actually pretty awful but I don't care, she manages to distract me from all that with an obnoxious amount of glitter, people with unicorn heads and lyrics about booze and dancing and boots and boys.

I was going to post the entire list today but trying to lay it all out properly is driving me insane so part 2 of the list will be in next weeks feature friday.

Who's your current girl crush?

If You Go Down The Woods Today (OOTD)

Dress - H&M
Cardigan- H&M
Belt- Primark
Bag- River Island
Tights- Primark
Shoes- Deichmans

So today me and Pete went to this lovely big park by my house where we wandered about the woods looking for big sticks, no we haven't embraced our inner canines he needed to record the sound of snapping wood for a uni project. I took this opportunity to make him take some outfit pictures for me of my favourite dress, you can't really tell in the pictures but it has little cats all over it, I was going to take my cardigan off for the photo's but it was so cold I could only bare to part with my coat, it even started snowing at one point.
We also took in a quick pub lunch where I successfully managed to stick to my current healthier diet by ordering a Sicilian Penne pasta with salad and a slice of garlic bread off the light bites menu and a diet Pepsi, although I did cave later and pop to Sainsburys for some Hot Cross Buns and a Double Chocolate Kit Kat Chunky, well they are limited edition.
