You Beauty Discovery- December 2014

I'll be honest I was a little disappointed with this months choice of products from You Beauty Discovery, they went with a Party Prep theme and I guess the products all fit into that category  although I feel like eye make-up remover pads and face wash are more after party products. It might have been nice to have a couple of hair styling products on the menu as well rather than dry shampoo, but anyway here's what I got.

Yarley Hydrating & Enriching Body Lotion
A nice scented body lotion which I'm looking forward to trying, I quite like Yardley products so I'll probably use this but I'm getting a little fed up of all the sachets I get in my YBD boxes as I don't usually use them and consequently have quite a pile of them.

Le Couvent Des Minimes Hiker’s Foot Healer
Another couple of sachets this time from a brand I've never heard of before, I seem to have been constantly on my feet this December so my feet could probably use some extra tlc and hopefully these should do the trick.

Lindt Chocolate Bear
It was nice to see something properly festive in the December box and what better to get me in the Christmas spirit than a little lindt bear, I'll be honest I ate this pretty much straight away as I love lindt chocolate.

My product choices:

Teeez Head Over Heels Nail Lacquer in Smoking Gun
Obviously I couldn't resist a pretty nail polish and I decided straight away that this would be one of my choices, I've never heard of the brand before but I like the packaging and the shade itself is gorgeous, a pretty gold glitter with a hint of bronze. I haven't tried it yet so I can't comment on the formula but I'm hoping it's as good as the fancy packaging suggests.

Wilkinson Sword Intuition Natural Sensitive Care
A sort of dull product for my second choice but let's face it a new razor is very useful around the party season and I knew I'd use this more than any of the other products. I have used it a couple of times and it's quite good, there's a block of soap attached to the head of the razor so you don't have to apply anything to your skin prior to shaving which is quite a nifty time saver and it left my legs feeling a little smoother than usual so this was a winner for me.

My Little Box By Fleur De Force- December 2014

This month My Little Box collaborated with vlogger Fleur De Force to bring a very festive installment of their beauty and lifestyle box and I really loved this months box. So here's what I got in my December box:

There were a few little craft bits to help you wrap your Christmas presents especially glamorously this year, there was a nice selection of masking tape with different cute patterns on each sheet, along with coordinating gift tags and a roll of thick thread to tie the tags onto your gifts.

Woollen Headband
I'll be honest this isn't really my style I'm more of a bobble hat kind of gal but this is quite cute so I might try it out but I don't think this is going to suit me so I may pass this on to someone else.

Now the beauty bits.

Cowshed Invigorating Body Lotion
I haven't tried many Cowshed products but I've really liked this, it has a nice fresh scent with ginger and lemongrass, so I'll be taking this to Pete's to keep in my little skincare stash at his house.

L'Occitane Precious Cream
I love L'Occitane hand creams but I've never tried any of their face care products and I wouldn't normally try a moisturiser this rich but my skin has been quite dry this winter so I gave it a go, in the pot the cream feels really thick and heavy but once I popped some on my face it didn't take too long to sink in and my skin was definitely grateful for the added moisture and I think this is my favourite product from this months box.

As always we have a product from My Little Box's own in house beauty line and this month it was a very pretty lipstick, it's exactly my kind of shade a nice bright red that leans towards pink, it's slightly more sheer than I'd like but it has a nice soft finish and gives a wash of colour that you can build up, the packaging is also adorable.

I really liked this months box and the L'Occitane moisturiser was definitely the highlight for me, you join My Little Box here for £11.00 per month plus p&p.

Birchbox- December 2014

Let's start this post by acknowledging how pretty this months Birchbox is, I tend to keep a lot of my Birchbox's for storing bits and bobs in so I really love it when they change up they're usual brown boxes for more colourful or patterned designs and this has to be my favourite yet.
The contents of my December box was also pretty great with a nice mixture of make-up, skincare and haircare, this was definitely my favourite beauty box this month as I'll use all of the items in my box.

I'm a big fan of Models Own nail polish and I already have two of the Velvet Goth polishes, Absinthe and Sardonyx, so I was really pleased to see this it's a really pretty colour and I love the matte finish of it but I do find that because you don't put a topcoat over these they do tend to chip a little more easily than regular polish.

I've used High Beam many times before and it's a great little highlighter, it gives a soft pink sheen that adds a little dimension to your cheekbones, brow bone or anywhere you choose to apply it, I love the fact this came in a little cracker which gave the box an added Christmassy feel.

I've had a few Eyeko eye liners in previous beauty boxes and honestly have never been wowed by them and I'm not a huge fan of this type of eye product I usually find that with a crayon/pen eyeshadow or liner it can be hard to get them to apply smoothly and the colour usually creases after a couple of hours. That being said it is very wearable shade, Smoke is exactly like it sounds a dark metallic grey that is easy to blend, I'm not massively keen on creamy eye shadows but this is fairly smooth and it's easy to build up the opacity depending on what kind of look you're going for.

I've never tried Electric Hair products before but this is a nice little shampoo sample, it smells lovely, fresh and lathers up really easily, It made my hair feel very soft but I don't think I'd shell out £17.50 for it.

I do love a good face mask and I love trying new ones, Ilcsi are a brand I've never heard of before but this sounds great it has rose petals and rose oil to tighten and smooth out skin which is especially good for those with large pores which is definitely something that bothers me about my skin, it also smell fantastic.

Another skincare product from a brand I've not tried before, this face scrub promises brighter unclogged skin whilst also being suitable for sensitive skin, I gave it a go this morning and it is surprisingly gentle making it perfect for a morning cleanse, I didn't find it overly moisturising and I think I prefer Lush's Bûche de Noël at the moment as it gently scrubs my skin whilst also deeply nourishing it and leaving it feeling super soft.

Normally I'm not too fussed by the lifestyle extras in my beauty boxes but I actually really like this purse, I love the colour and print combo and I'll definitely find a use for this in my bag.

Lush- Movis Facial Soap

When this came out a few months ago I was quite intrigued by it so decided to pick some up whilst I was in Chester, Movis is a Lush soap aimed specifically for use on your face it has a strange squidgy texture which reminds me of malt loaf and I suppose a bread like texture is what they were aiming for with the aptly named Movis.
I've been using it for a couple of months and it's still going strong, but I've only really been using it on days when I haven't worn make-up as I find it's fair too gentle for removing all traces of my make-up, I also like to use this before applying a face mask for a proper deep cleanse. Movis very lightly buffs the skin whilst you work up a lather thanks to the wholemeal bread and organic wheat bran but it mainly focuses on softening the skin with lots of  extra virgin coconut oil, sunflower oil, wheatgerm oil and organic cocoa butter. I do really like this for a gentle cleanse or a morning refresh as I feel like it's doing some good in terms of balancing out my combination skin but on the whole I don't think it's tough enough to become a vital part of my skincare regime and it's not something I'll feel the need to rush out and repurchase when it's all gone.

Lush Christmas- Yog Nog Soap

Yog Nog- £3.40 per 100g

This is the best smelling soap I have ever owned, it smells absolutely incredible it's very sweet and vanillary with coconut oil, soya yogurt, cocoa powder and nutmeg powder which makes it smell like cinder toffee.
Unlike Reindeer Rock which I reviewed a little while ago this lathers up really easily, it's super creamy and extremely softening, which leaves my skin feeling super smooth and smelling delightful. This looks very Christmassy as well with big embossed stars on the top, it has a suitably pudding like colour and the dusting of cocoa and nutmeg powder make it look almost like chocolate.
It is just absolutely perfect for the indulgent Christmas period and I think this may be my favourite Lush soap ever and I have tried a fair few.

ModCloth Holiday Sweater Party

ModCloth Holiday Sweater Party

I was recently asked if I'd like to do a post to show how I'd style this cozy Christmas jumper from ModCloth as part of their Holiday Sweater Party (check out their other fab Christmas sweaters here) and as I have an ever-growing obsession with Polyvore I decided to take part.
The outfit I've come up with is pretty similar to how I styled my own Christmas jumper last week, I'd team this jumper with a plain black skirt and the beautiful ankle boots with the gold buckles. To accessorize it I'd add the statement flower necklace, a plain black clutch bag and a swipe of bright lippy like Suedeberry from Lime Crime. I'd probably wear this to go for Christmas drinks with my friends and as I'd probably be walking to my local pub I'd have to wrap up a bit so I'd throw on a nice big coat, I tend to go for androgynous styles when it comes to outer wear so this coat is perfect and of course you can't go wrong with a tartan scarf.

Christmas Wishlist

Christmas Wishlist

As Christmas is just a few days away I thought it was time to share with you what I've asked Santa for this year.
As always I've asked for a few dvds, the one I really really want is Maleficent as I never got around to seeing it when it was on at the cinema.
I've got my eye on a couple of fragrances, Gucci Guilty which is one of my all time favorites and Elizabeth Arden Untold which I had a little sample of a while ago and really liked.
The main thing on my list is the lamp, it's not the most exciting thing in the world but I've really been struggling to take any blog photos as it seems to be constantly dark when I'm not at work and this little beauty is supposed to simulate daylight and prevent glare which sounds ideal for taking photos of  beauty products.
I've asked for a couple of skincare bits from Elizabeth Arden and Ren the main thing being the Ren Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial.
Beauty wise I've also asked for another Topshop lipstick this time a deep red called Trigger, a Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Fervent which is a beautiful red brown with silver shimmer and looks absolutely beautiful and yet another nude eyeshadow palette but I think as I don't own any Bobbi Brown products I can justify this and the shades are perfect especially the sparkly gold shade.
Of course I had to throw in a couple of silly bits and bobs, I'd love the monster slippers to go with my Stitch Kigu, I have no space for any more mugs but I'd love this Hogwarts one and lastly I've had my eye on this Bill and Ted t-shirt for ages so I'd be very happy to find it under the tree this year.

What are you hoping Santa for this year?
