Birchbox- September 2014

This months Birchbox theme was about nostalgia and the happiest times of our lives, I'm not too sure why they chose this theme and I don't really see how the products fit in with the theme but my September box certainly made me happy.

Birchbox Happy Days Photo Clip
The one thing that was mildly nostalgic for me in this months box was this cute little photo clip, I remember having a few of these in the 90s in all sorts of hideously bright colours.

ModelCo Lip Lacquer in Viva
I'm not overly keen on lip lacquers as I hate anything sticky on my lips so I wasn't too excited by this although it's quite a pretty colour, a peachy pink tone that's quite pale and wearable but not something I'd pick out for myself.

Korres Citrus Body Milk
I've been wanting to try Korres products for quite a while so I was really pleased to see this in my box, I have built up quite a stash of body lotions but this is a particularly nice body milk which has a sweet lemony scent and absorbs quickly so it's a very welcome arrival to body lotion hoard.

Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream
I have spouted my devotion for Benefit's It's Potent! Eye Cream many times before but I actually haven't bought it for a while as I've been using Origins Ginzing Eye Cream instead (review here), this was probably the best product in the box in my opinion and I'll use this up in no time.

Urban Fruit Perfect Pineapple
I usually like lifestyle extras in my beauty boxes but unfortunately I hate pineapple so I won't be eating these.

Agave Healing Oil Treatment
I used to avoid hair oils as I thought they'd make my hair oily and greasy but as my hair has grown longer the ends have gotten much more knotty and dry so I tried out a couple and it has done my hair the world of good. This is a really lovely oil, it leaves my hair feeling smoother and very soft without weighing it down or leaving any residue another, thing I love about hair oils is that they last ages, my hair is nearly down to my elbows now and I only need a little over a 5p sized dollop to cover the lengths of my hair which means even a little sample like this lasts me a good while.

BeautyBlender + BlenderCleanser Solid
I've heard a lot of great things about egg shaped sponges like the BeautyBlender but I've never been overly tempted by them as I get along fine with my brushes that said I am looking forward to trying this and I really like the fact it comes with a solid cleanser.

So this months box was a total winner in my opinion and I can't wait for next months box.

OOTD: Crazy Crazy Nights

I Wore:
Cropped T-shirt- Miss Selfridge
Striped Trousers- Motel
Boots- River Island
Time Turner- eBay
Watch- River Island

I bought this really cute velvety cropped tee from Miss Selfridge for about £10 in the sales, I wasn't too sure what to wear it with as I don't really fancy showing off my stomach but then I remembered that I had these Motel leather style stripey trousers that are sort of high waisted so they go together really well. I really like these trousers although I haven't worn them in a while as they tend to absolutely cook my legs in the summer but they're great for colder weather although they're a little too long on my short legs.
I dip dyed my hair a couple of months ago using Renbow Crazy Colours in Cyclamen and Violette as I like adding a bit of colour over the summer but now the weathers cooling down I'm letting the dye fade out before my annual haircut.

You Beauty Discovery- 1st Birthday Edition September 2014

I was quite pleased with this months You Beauty Discovery Menu and I was very happy with my choices as well as the extras thrown in for every subscriber.

Extra Products

Crabtree & Evelyn Tea Bags in Blackberry Green Tea and Afternoon Tea
I'm a huge tea drinker so I was instantly happy when I saw these, I'm not too keen on green tea but I'll definitely give it a try and I've already used the afternoon tea which was delicious.

You Beauty Discovery Make-up Sponge
This was a cute little extra but I don't think I'll use it too much as I prefer to apply my face powder with a brush.

Toni&Guy Volume Plumping Whip Full Size
As a special bonus product for You Beauty Discovery's 1st Birthday all subscribers received a full size tub of Toni&Guy's Plumping Whip which is exactly the kind of hair product I pick for myself as I'm always after more volume for my locks. I haven't tried it yet but it smells fantastic and I'll definitely use this next time I get chance for a pamper.

There was also a £25 off Hello Fresh voucher but I've received one of these before and never used it so I wasn't too fussed by this.

My Choices.

Pixi – Tinted Brilliance Balm in Pretty Pink
I took a bit of a risk with this one as I didn't know which shade I would receive and the shade that was shown on You Beauty Discovery's site wasn't really my kind of colour, luckily I got this lovely pink shade, it's a quite a bright pink that leans towards coral and it's surprisngly well pigmented for a tinted balm so it's definitely something I'll use a lot.

Mavala – Mavadry Manicure Time-Save Fast Drying Nail Polish Finish
I'm always painting my nails at the wrong time and always end up having to leave the house whilst they're still tacky which nearly always results in a smudgy mess so I knew immediately when I saw this that it would be one of my choices this month. I haven't used it yet but I've always had good experiences with Mavala polishes so I'm looking forward to trying this to see if it actually does dry my nail varnish any quicker.

I was really happy with my September You Beauty Discovery box and I think they're really good value for £6.95 a month. You can subscribe to You Beauty Discovery here.

Catch Up

I spent a few days away with Beth in Chester, We visited a Friends themed cafe called Central Perk, had many cockatails at the Waikiki Tiki bar, We stayed at the lovely Crowne Plaza, Of course we had to spend a day at Chester zoo, We went to one of my absolute favourite restaurants Hickorys, Cupcakes at Mad Hatters Tea Shop, Wore my hair up for a change, Dinner at Fiesta Havana, Did a little bit of drawing, Took Pete's Dad's Bull Mastiffs for a walk, Pete and I ate all the food at Chiquitos, Tidying my room and my ever growing underwear collection, Left over pizza for breakfast.

I've had quite a busy few weeks, I went away for a few days in Chester with my best friend Beth and it was exactly what I needed we ate lots of great food drank too many cocktails, visited the spa and of course did some serious shopping.
I've also spent lots of time with my wonderful fiancé which has been lovely as we often struggle to see each other during the week with him doing the 9-5 and me working anytime between 7am and 9pm. We're house sitting for Pete's dad most of this week which means getting up early to make Pete's lunch for work, cooking the one and only recipe I know and Netflix marathons, we're also going to the theatre tomorrow night to see my all time favourite show Cats which I am very excited about.
The other thing that's been keeping me busy is redecorating my room, I've always struggled to fit all of my worldly belongings into my 6ft x 9ft bedroom but I think I've finally got it looking nice and tidy, I may do a room tour if any of you fancy it.

Product Review: Lush You've Been Mangoed

I have only tried a couple of Lush's Bath Melts in the past, I used to love Happy Blooming which was a pink wedge shaped melt with cherries embossed on the top and it smelt just like a cherry bakewell but since they discontinued it I don't really pay much attention to the bath melts when I visit Lush. However I am now in the process of trying to review pretty much all of Lush's bath products so I decided to give another bath melt a go, I picked up You've Been Mangoed which is a little orange bar scented with lemongrass, lime and lemon oils and packed with hydrating avocado butter, cocoa butter and mango butter.
I'm not overly keen on bath products full of butter as I hate getting out of the water with my skin feeling like a greased chicken so I broke this bath melt in two and just popped half of it in the water. It melted away slowly filling the room with a sweet citrusy aroma and turning the water thick and cloudy, I think half the bar was more than enough for one bath, my skin felt really soft and moisturised afterwards without feeling too sticky or greasy.
I did really like using this bath melt but I don't think it's something I'll rush out to buy again as I'd much rather get a bath bomb for the same price.
