Feature Friday: Films for 2012

Despite being pretty movie mad I hardly went to the cinema last year and instead expanded my now slightly ridiculous DVD collection and the films I did venture out for were mostly kids films and trash. In fact I think I only saw 6 films last year in total. They were the absolutely awful Shark Night 3D (nowhere near as good as Piranha 3D), Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon which would have a whole lot better without Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, yes she is amazingly beautiful but her acting was pretty atrocious, the final Harry Potter which was awesome, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Smurfs which despite being Smurftastically awful is now me and my best friends film which has lead to us adding the word  Smurf to pretty much everything and Gnomeo & Juliet which me and the boyfriend saw mostly because Ozzy Osbourne was the voice of a plastic deer, sadly he featured very little and I was quite disappointed with it.
Now onto 2012 which in terms of films is looking pretty awesome, there's quite a few I want to see so I've split them into groups.

Kids Films
ParaNorman - made in the same style of animation as Corpse Bride and Coraline, that's me sold.
Frankenweenie- I was initially skeptical about a feature length remake of Tim Burtons short film until I discovered its an animation like the beloved Nightmare Before Christmas. Excited.
Finding Nemo 3D- I'm sure a lot of people are starting to tire of the flurry of films being rereleased 3D stylee (more on that later), this however I can imagine being really great in 3D, it's a great film and there's a lot of scenes such as the race through the jelly fish and the beginning  when Nemo swims out to the boat in the huge empty bit of ocean that seem to have been made for the 3D genre. Also I became a bit obsessed with this film when I had tonsillitis a few years ago and literally watched it every day for about two weeks.

Sequels, Remakes and Spin Offs
The Dark Knight Rises- Reasons why this shall be awesome; Batman is my favourite superhero, I've never seen a batman film I didn't like (Arnold Shwarzenegger as Mr Freeze pure cinematic gold), the cast is amazing: the adorable Juno Temple, Gary Oldman and Anne Hathaway (although I am a tad skeptical about her villain capabilities). And finally it has the loveliness of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy in the same film and this time in a film where the plot won't melt your brain like Inception.
Men In Black III- The first two were epic so lets hope this is too, the trailer certainly gives me hope.
Ice Age: Continental Drift- ICE AGE IS AWESOME. That is all.
Piranha 3DD- The first one was epic with all the features of an awesome (trashy) horror/ creature feature; slutty women, crazy amounts of alcohol, unknown cast who are so stupid you're actually hoping to see them eaten and of course Kelly Brook filming a lesbian Porn film in the sea. You can tell this is going to be even trashier than the first from the "clever" way they've called it 3DD. Oh and if all that wasn't good enough Christopher Lloyd plays a crazy Scientist guy and David Hasslehoff appears as himself! They've really pushed the boat out.  : D
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey- Loved the book, Love the Lord Of The Rings I am really looking forward to this.
This Is 40- Knocked Up is a pretty decent film but the stand out characters were Pete and Debbie so I'm looking forward to this spin off focusing purely on them, also Paul Rudd is hilarious.
American Reunion- The first three films were awesome then they made a whole bunch of crappy ones about various Stifler family members and now they've realised the error of their ways and have reunited the entire original cast it looks pretty good lets hope its not a huge let down.

Films I Want To See Just Because of the Cast
Neighbourhood Watch- Cast includes comedy legends Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and... pretty much the only reason I want to see this.... Richard Ayoade, he's adorable and if you don't know him go watch the IT Crowd right now! Oh and the plot has something to do with aliens or something.
Gone - Amanda Seyfried trying to track down her missing sister and looking gorgeous in the process
This Means War - Starring Chris Pine AKA Captain Kirk and the lovely Tom Hardy playing spies who are both dating Reese Witherspoon, what's not to like.
Goon -Sean William Scott.
Donny's Boy- The actual plot sounds kind of lame but Pete loves Adam Sandler films so he'll definitely want to see this and with Milo Ventimiglia also part of the cast I can't say I'll be complaining.
Romeo And Juliet- Its a classic tale and Ed Westwick is rather lovely but the main reason I want to see this is Douglas Booth, he was fantastic in the Great Expectations adaptation at christmas so I'm hoping he'll be great in this too.
Dark Shadows- Continuing one of the longest bromances in cinema Tim Burtons other offering this year stars Jonny Depp as a vampire and also includes his wife Helena Bonham Carter. People are beginning to tire of this cast and I have to say despite being a die hard Burton fan I did find Alice In Wonderland a huge disappointment so lets hope they can claw back some love with this film. The rest of the cast is pretty awesome too with the fantastic Chloë Grace Moretz (who was awesome as Hit Girl in Kick Ass), Christopher Lee, Alice Cooper (as himself) and Hannah Murray (Cassie from Skins).

The Rest
Snow White And The Huntsman- Despite her apparent inability to smile Kristen Stewart looks pretty good in this and out of the two snow white adaptions out this year, the other being Mirror, Mirror starring Julia Roberts, this definitely looks the better film.
The Woman In Black - Pete's mom lent me the book and I loved it so I'm really looking forward to this and Daniel Radcliffe is the main character.
The Raven - A film about Edgar Allen Poe trying to solve murders based on his own stories and poems, need I say more.
Ted- "A story centred on a man and his teddy bear, who comes to life as the result of a childhood wish." sounds delightful, it's directed by Family Guy creator Seth Macfarlene (who also provides the voice for Ted) and it stars Mila Kunis I really hope this is good because my expectations are pretty high for this.
Warm Bodies- Zombies, love and Skins actor Nicholas Hoult. Awesome.
The Cabin In The Woods- As the plot summary states "Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen." not particularly original but its made by the guy who made Buffy and I loved Buffy.
21 Jumper Street -Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill play undercover cops who go back to high school, sounds pretty stupid but enjoyable unlike Mr Hills current film The Sitter which looks plain awful, one to see with Pete I think.
The Vow - This looks pretty adorable and will no doubt make me blubber like I did at the Notebook and it has Rachel Mcadams from the Notebook. Win.
Chronicle - Sci-Fi thriller about three guys who get superpowers then one of them turns evil, I am sucker for sci-fi.

Films I Definitely Won't Be Seeing
Step Up 4- Just.Stop.
A Thousand Words- I don't think Eddie Murphy is funny any more he just plays the same character in everything.
Titanic 3D- I love the film but is there really any need to make it 3d, I mean apart from the bit when it actually sinks its not really meant for 3D, I don't need to see people walking and running round a boat in 3D.
Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance- I dislike Nicholas Cage. A lot. (except for his part in Kick Ass which made me cry).
Star Wars: Episode I 3D- I can understand people may want to see the Star Wars films in 3D but episode one is kind of crappy despite the lovely Natalie Portman.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island- Can You Smell What The Rock Is Cooking? Another crappy kids film by the looks of things.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D- I'm not sure if this is another remake of the first film or a re-imagining or if the only connection to the original is a character called Leatherface with a penchant for chainsaws but either way its going to suck.
Breaking Dawn Part 2- I read the books. They made me want to never hear the words "marble" or "chest" again. I don't understand how they stretched the kind of feeble story into 2 whole films (other than to copy Harry Potter and perhaps make more money) and for someone who's so passionately and madly in love I wish Kristen Stewart would smile just once. Oh and the name Renesmee is just horrendous.

Thank God for Orange Wednesdays!
